Maroro was even more annoying in the game as he keep talking sh**, running away and coming back to kill Oshtor so you need to battle him many times. But i cried like a b**ch when he sacrificed himself for Haku.

Typecero • 1 year ago

Yeah it was a great ending for him, when he was finally able to overcome the parasite and finally have a true moment with Haku.

Kranesh • 1 year ago

I was sad when Maroro died in the game and I'm sad again that Maroro died in the anime as well... at least I have to say that his scene was nicely done, even tho it felt a bit rushed.

As someone who plays the game before and love it, I still feel like all this drama could be avoided if he atleast tells his close friends.
I mean none of them could betray him anyway, not to mention it might even help lesser the burden of his mind pretending to be Oshtor. Because of this, it feels like he cares more about Oshtor than his other friends and kinda makes it to appreciate Kuon and Maroro more for their anger and hate toward Oshtor for disrespecting Haku than his other companions who from their POV look like they don't care much about Haku's death.

I would say the biggest issue with the disguise is having to maintain the "mission driven" side of being Oshtor. Oshtor was someone regarded as the "General of the Right".

With this in mind, Oshtor's goal in the Mask of Deception game was to maintain the peace of the realm, to the point he would allow himself to be executed for a crime he didn't commit. Oshtor the Hero is "avenging" Haku in the eyes of his unsuspecting party members.

By Haku channeling this energy, he must draw a line between Haku and Oshtor:
Oshtor was very driven and committed.
Haku was lazy, and found doing unnecessary things to be a drag.

Oshtor must put the mission to bring Anju back to the throne above everything else. If more parties than necessary know that Haku is Oshtor, there runs a risk that in the middle of battle the "act" could fall apart. This happened when Mikazuchi first fought with "Haku" after he donned his disguise. Mikazuchi immediately knew something was off based on how "Haku" engaged with him... but he chose to let the news that the "real" Oshtor was dead stay undiscovered...

The only reason Haku was allowed to be Haku during Maroro's final moments was because he was speaking on matters that only Maroro would know about.

When "Oshtor" mentioned to Maroro "let's go drinking with Ukon", he dropped the act for a moment. Ukon was Oshtor's "alter ego", so why would Oshtor suggest that he go drinking with both sides of himself? Only people in the know would be privy to that information.

I do understand the important of Haku wearing Oshtor mask.

But at the very least he should give more trust to his other friend. They have been his friends and his subodinates for longer than Oshtor's and I think that they trust him more than Oshtor himself anyway.
Not to mention that it has been shown throughtout the series that Haku despite his lack of motivation can get the job done. So I believe it's safe to let the others know about his secret (maybe except Anju). And Maroro could have survived as well.

I personally don't like the fact that he puts Oshtor's request as a higher priority than his friendship with the group. That's all.

Typecero • 1 year ago

I honestly don't know if the writers were prepared for it.

If you take the "side stories" that each character had with Oshtor, then it would surely have more impact if it was Haku that shared those moments with them?

But it certainly does come off as a "Oh come on, you are already STORMING THE GATES, what's a leak about your true identity going to do"?

the Finance Guy • 1 year ago

I agree. The war and the number of deaths could of been reduced too if Anju appeared on the battlefield earlier. As shown in this episode most of the soldiers fighting for the fake princess really thought they were fighting for the real one and would of stop if they saw the real one.

ramenmen • 1 year ago

But the gate was close, things went smoothly because Raiko messed up the cannon and also the traitor that pulling strings behind him.

the Finance Guy • 1 year ago

I'm talking about the previous battle right before they reached the capital. If Anju showed herself on the battlefield there it might have prevented the need for Haku and Mikazuchi to using the akuruka powers.

ramenmen • 1 year ago

Then we won't be watching the epic fights between them lol. If everything went smoothly, nothing goes wrong, what's left to watch?

Jesus Christ Istandalone and Kim Kim are literally the most incel couple of children i have ever seen. It's like wow, holy sht, how can one lack a woman's touch so badly that they would insult fictional characters over it?

6:11 That's the thing, some are willing to sacrifice their own troops for a victory.
7:57 Okay, I was joking in the previous ep about Battleship Yamato's 18 inch guns. But damn, sure does look like it.

10:30 That look when you know way more than you should.
11:25 Like Moses and the Red Sea.
13:31 Wow!!! Talk about shocking anime betrayals, and the blade has poison on it.
14:46 Indeed.
15:03 Can you spot the ones that don't know what Phucc Around and Find Out mean!?!!
17:09 Oh Shidd!!! Not the worms from Wrath of Khan!!!
19:06 That's definitely not Anju. Like, why is her face covered, and her voice different.
20:41 That much pressure and still bleeding like that, must have punctured his heart.

Damn!!! Maroro's death actually bothered me more than I thought it would. Helluva request to Oshtor to not hate Raiko after what he has done up to now. I'm like Bruh!!! He stuck a worm in your head to make you do his bidding. Nevertheless, RIP Maroro.πŸ˜”

And right when things look like they are about to turn around, we find a 3rd Column that is trying to kill everyone, including Raiko and Oshtor from the shadows.

No one is safe including Anju who is out in the open. And I guess we have to wait to see if Mikazuchi survived. Which is doubtful because of the poison blade.

Why is it always good people like Maroro that have to die? Why can't these bitches that did nothing to help the cause die instead? Such a disappointment after being clouded for so long!
